The NO COST anti-aging SECRET

Hello my beautiful readers! I hope you all are doing well on this lovely day. I bet you are sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for me to reveal this top secret anti aging product. Now, don’t get mad at me if you have already heard of it (insert clinched teeth emoji). Drumroll please…

Keep Reading, it gets better (wink). I go to see my chiropractor on a regular basis, and he said that he treats dehydration more than anything else in the winter time. Why is this? Well, when the temperature drops and your furnace kicks on, it can get as dry as a desert in your house. The lack of humidity in the air is no bueno for your skin. Your skin is the largest organ you have (did you know that)? Like all other organs, it needs water to properly function and look good.

Organs such as your heart, brain, lungs, ect. are just a little more important, so your body takes what water you do have and hydrates them first. If you are not getting an adequate amount of water, your body starts pulling from other places (aka…your skin) to hydrate your internal organs. If there is not enough water to pull from anywhere, your organs start shutting down, and that never ends good.

Enough with the scare tactics.

Lets see how dehydrated skin compares to hydrated skin.

Dehydrated

  • More prominent lines and wrinkle. When the skin is not hydrated, the cells are broken down and the outer layer starts to sag, causing wrinkles.
  • Dull complexion
  • Excessive Oil. When the skin is deprived of water, the cells in the body secrete oil to keep the skin hydrated.
  • Overly Dry
  • Acne
  • Chapped, rough, or itchy skin

VS

Hydrated

  • Plump, firm skin
  • Even skin tone
  • Balanced oil output
  • Soft and Supple
  • Clearer skin
  • Glowing complexion

You’re probably thinking to yourself by now, “maybe I should drink more water.” The answer is Yes, yes you should! So, how much should you drink? Do coffee and other beverages count? Does it matter what kind of water you drink? Let me answer these questions for you.

How much water should you drink?

The answer depends on the individual, their height and weight, activity level, and diet. On average, you will want to drink half your body weight in ounces MINIMUM.

200 lbs = 100 ounces of water

Do coffee, tea, and other beverages count toward your water intake?

Unfortunately, NO. Beverages with caffeine and/or sugar, deplete the body even more of its hydration. Bummer! For every 8 ounces of caffeine you drink, you need 16 ounces of water to level your body back out. I’m not telling you not to drink these beverages at all, just drink them in moderation. Lord knows, I love a good cup of coffee in the morning.

Does the type of water I drink matter?

Surprisingly, not all water is created equal. Tap water, for example, contains chlorine and fluoride. Neither of these chemicals have been proven to be safe for human consumption, so drink at your own risk. Water filtered by reverse osmosis, while good, it lacks the necessary minerals that the body needs to actually absorb the water. When I buy filtered water like this, I use a product called ConcenTrace to restore some of the minerals lost. My chiropractor told me about this product while I was pregnant and said it also helps with hair loss postpartum. In my opinion, the best water for you to buy and drink is natural spring water.

Did you ever think something as simple as water could be so beneficial? Along with being uber good for your skin, here are a few other fun facts about water…

  • It helps with headaches. Did you know 80% of headaches are caused by dehydration? Interesting, very interesting.
  • It helps with fatigue. A 20 ounce glass of water first thing in the morning (on an empty stomach) gives you more energy than a cup of coffee. FYI, I do this! I always drink 24 ounces of water first thing in the morning before my cup of coffee.
  • It helps speed up your metabolism. Drinking your water will not only give you energy it will kick your body into fat burning mode. Helloooo!
  • It aids in digestion. Gets your body a movin and a groovin to get the junk out, if ya know what I mean. 😉
  • It detoxifies. Yes, drinking water will make you use the bathroom more, but that is a good thing! You are getting rid of all those yucky toxins that cause your body to not function properly.

Did I convince you to start drinking your water? I hope so! Although hard at first, I know you will look and feel better than ever if you start increasing your water intake. To make it easier on yourself try increasing gradually over time. Also, if you fall behind one or two days, don’t beat yourself up over it. Do your best!

Organic Lip Balm Review-Messy Little Smiles

Hi, my name is Christina, and I’m addicted to organic lip balm. Lip balm is a staple in my bedtime routine and I get anxious if I don’t have it on. Weird, but true. With the seasons changing and the cool air moving in, I began my hunt for the perfect organic lip balm. To my surprise, not only did I find what I was looking for, but I found one I could use on Phoenix too! Where did I find it you ask? On Instagram of course. One of my good friends tagged me in a picture and said, “check these products out.” Well, I did and reached out to the owner of Messy Little Smiles. How cute is that name? This is what I found…

Messy Little Smiles is owned by Sarah. She is a mom that is passionate about her children and their health (as she should be). In her own search for a lip balm she could use on her little ones, she kept running into the same thing. In fine print on the back of generic Chapstick it says, “consult a doctor before use” and “keep away from children.” Are you serious!?! If the chemicals found in these products aren’t good for children they are not good for anyone. This harsh realization drove her to create a product that is USDA Organic certified and she makes it in her own home after the kiddos go to bed. How cool is that!

Sarah was so kind to send me a couple of her Messy Little Smiles lip balms to try. Here is my review of her products…

Ingredients: Organic coconut oil, organic beeswax, organic honey, organic Shea Butter, and organic essential oil flavoring

Being a skin care guru and all, I can tell you these ingredients are the bomb.com (haha, yes that is still cool to say). The coconut oil, honey, and Shea butter and all extremely moisturizing and hydrating. The beeswax helps seal in the moisture along with firming and plumping the skin. These ingredients are so good, I would be confident in telling you you can use them around the eye area too. Probably just at night though, I think it would be a little too tacky to wear under makeup. Also, I wouldn’t recommend using the mint flavor around the eye area, that might burn a little.

The flavors I tried were Orange-Honey and Mint. The Orange-Honey made me salivate and want a dreamsicle and the mint was refreshing and cooling. The product itself is soft and silky and stayed on my lips for hours. When the product did wear off, my lips did not feel parched and dry like they were starving for more. I could tell the ingredients actually did what they were suppose to. I even tried them on Phoenix and he loved them. He would giggle when I applied it and then he tried to eat it. Ha!

I give this organic lip balm two thumbs up and think you should definitely give it a try! It’s a great product for you, your family, or as a gift. FYI, Messy Little Smiles also does custom labeling for weddings, birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, ect. You can find Sarah and Messy Little Smiles on Etsy here. Zit Emergency!

You looking at my zit? You zit looker cheeky monkey!  I woke up with this beautiful duo on my chin and was actually excited.  I don’t get breakouts often, so when I got these I thought….BLOG!  Ok, so before you start to hate me for never getting breakouts, it hasn’t always been that way.  I struggled with acne through most of my 20’s and that is what motivated me to go to school for skin.  Enough about me and my face, let me give you a scenario.

It’s the day before your big event, the pressure is mounting and BOOM! A Mount St. Helens size zit pops up on your face. It’s like your bodies way of saying, “Oh, you’re getting married tomorrow? Here’s a present.” No matter the occasion an unwelcomed visitor is never good.  Let me tell you how you can zap that zit fast, or at least minimize it.

You will need…

Acne Lotion

You know I am an Image girl, so I absolutely love the Clear Cell acne lotion. It works super quick to clear up existing breakouts and prevent new ones.  Any product with salicylic and benzoyl peroxide will be good.

Bandaids

Any small round or square bandaid will work.

Hydrocortisone Cream

I am using Cortisone 10 but again you can use any hydrocortisone of choice.

Directions

  1. Wash your face thoroughly and pat dry.
  2. Mix equal parts acne lotion and hydrocortisone (both together should be about the size of a pea).
  3. Place mixture right on breakout.
  4. Put bandaid on to cover mixture and breakout (this ensures the product stays on all night).
  5. Moisturize the rest of your face as normal.

This mixture will help reduce the redness and inflammation of your breakout.  In some cases it could clear it up all together. Note: Do NOT use the hydrocortisone cream all over your face if you have active acne.  This is meant to be used for a single breakout.

Hope this helped all you lovelies de-stress and rest before your big day (whatever that may be). Until next time…

Target does it again…Makeup!

Who doesn’t love a good Target trip?!?  Baby food, diapers, light bulbs, an extension cord, and MAKEUP!!! (Just in case you wanted to know what all I bought) lol.  Here are the fun makeup items I got for the look I created above…

Loreal true match (W4 natural beige)

NYX HD Finishing Powder (SFP 01)

e.l.f. HD Blush (superstar)

Loreal true match concealer (fair/light)

NYX shadow pallet (adorable)

Maybelline Pumped Up Mascara (black)

Maybelline line express eyeliner (soft black)

e.l.f. Lip Stain (berry blush)

I’m really loving the e.l.f. berry blush lip stain.  It is a great fall color, lasts for hours, and is only $2! Since it’s a stain it can get a little dry, so if that’s the case just slap a little gloss on top.  Until next time…

Coming Next Week…

Zit Emergency!!!

Hey Beauties and Beaudes (beauty dude)! Let me know what you think about this post and what you want to see more of.  Love you all!

Just Another Beauty Blog

Welcome to my beauty blog!  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit.  This is an exciting new venture for me and I can not wait for us to take this journey together.  I hope you are inspired along the way to do something you’re passionate about.  To get to know me a little better, I am starting with a Q&A about the blog. Here it goes…

Who are you?

My name is Christina and I am a wife/mother/esthetician/makeup artist/business owner/and newbie blogger. I am also a huge goof ball with a Type A personality. My husband loves that about me (insert sarcasm).

This is what I really look like most days…

Why did you start a beauty blog and why should I read it?

I started a beauty blog because beauty is what I know and love.  I heard once that if you write what you are passionate about, it doesn’t matter if you are a good writer.  Hopefully it’s true, Lord knows I was doing my makeup during English class.

I don’t think you SHOULD read my Blog, I hope you will WANT to read my blog.  My heart is to help people and encourage them, so I will try to convey that in my posts as best as possible.

What is your beauty blog going to be about?

All things beauty!

  • Skincare – How to treat conditions and get the best skin possible
  • Makeup – New trends, product reviews, tutorials, before/afters
  • Hair – Fun up-do’s, easy styles, and DYI treatments to get healthy locks

and much, much more…

Why is the name of your blog Love Beautiful Skin?

I would like to think it was strategic but it’s not.  I just liked the name, and it has 3 important words in it…

  1. Love – It’s so important to love yourself and others.
  2. Beautiful – Everyones definition of beauty is different.  We are all beautiful.
  3. Skin – Since I am an esthetician, skin just made sense. lol

Can I be a part of your blog and ask questions?

Absolutely, I hope you are and do!  There will always be an opportunity for you to comment and leave your suggestions after my posts.  I want to cover topics that interest you as a reader, so let me know what you want. (comment below this post)

To sum it up…

I’m just a regular gal trying to live my life to the fullest and juggle 101 different things (I’m sure most of you can relate). Whatever stage of life you’re in hopefully our paths can meet briefly a couple times a week to talk beauty.  Until next time…

Foundation…find your perfect match!!!

Liquid or powder, foundations can be a pain to match to your skin tone.  You want a foundation that blends as closely as possible to your natural skin tone without leaving any harsh lines.  A few things you will want to do when shopping for a new foundation.

  • Plan on being fresh faced when you go shopping (I heard that gulp…you can do it)
  • Go to a store that has testers readily available
  • Make sure you can check out your foundation in natural lighting (this will give you the most accurate coloring)
  • Whatever makeup line you go with choose 3 foundations to test that compliment your skin tone (warm, cool, or neutral)

Lets Get Started

Here is where you will want to test your foundations (down by your jawline). This gives you your most true skin tone as your cheeks are usually a bit darker.

Today, I am using Image I Conceal Foundation in 3 different shades.

From left to right. Porcelain (lightest color) Natural (med color) Beige (darkest color)

Make sure to use a cotton swab or applicator the store has available.  The last thing you want to do is transfer cooties with someone. Oh, and NO double dipping. Yuck!

Put a thin layer of each shade on your jawline (I put them on a little thicker than needed for the photos).

#1 (closest to ear) Natural #2 (middle) Porcelain #3 (closest to mouth) Beige

Wait a few minutes until the foundation starts to set into your skin. This is when you should go check it out in the natural lighting.

“Wa-lah!”  You now have your color!

Both the Natural #1 and the Beige #3 blend in to my skin.  The Natural is a neutral undertone and the Beige has a little bit more of a pink (cool) undertone.  I prefer the neutral tones on my skin and I think the Natural blends in better. The middle one #2 porcelain is WAY too light as you can see.

Hope this helps you Beauties find your perfect match!!!  Until next time…
