5 Steps to Get and Keep Glowing Skin (All Year!)

We’ve all seen her, the girl that walks in the room with skin that would make your baby’s butt jealous. Maybe that was a little extreme but seriously, her skin is A-Mazing! Here are 5 steps to achieving the JLo glow of your dreams.

Drink your water!!!

Water is SO crucial in keeping your skin healthy. I will go into detail on a later post but ideally you will want to drink half your body weight in ounces daily. No… tea does not count, neither does coffee. For every 8 ounces of caffeine you drink, you need 16 ounces of water just to even the playing field. So if you are a coffee lover and you want glowing skin, you might want to switch to decaf. I personally try to get in about a gallon of water a day. Just to be on the safe side 😉

Get on a good skincare routine

Your skin will love you and you will love it if you are on the right skincare routine. Choose products that are suited for your skin type whether you are dry, oily, combination, or normal. I put all of my clients and myself on a 4 product a day protocal. The 4 products are a cleanser, anti-aging serum, day moisturizer + SPF, and a night cream. You will want to take care of your skin twice daily with these products. Yes…that means you need to wash your face EVERY night before you go to bed!

Here is an example of my day and night routine

Ageless Cleanser, Vital C Anti-Aging Serum, and Tinted Moisture + SPF

Evening Routine

Ageless Cleanser, Vital C Anti-Aging Serum, Iluma Intense Lightening Serum

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin. By gently exfoliating a few times a week you are speeding up cell turnover (how fast the NEW skin comes to the surface). There are a couple ways you can safely exfoliate your skin at home either mechanically or chemically. Mechanical exfoliation includes scrubs and tools such as the Clarisonic, whereas chemical exfoliation includes any products with AHA or BHA‘s. Products such as cleansers, masks, and creams.

Eat a balanced diet

Have you ever heard the phrase, “you are what you eat?” Well, it’s true. Whatever you put in your body will show either in your overall health or on your skin. To have the best skin possible, eat a balanced diet full of protien, veggies, and good fats. Here is a short list of items that are excellent for your skin.

  • Chicken
  • Salmon
  • Eggs
  • Spinach
  • Sweet Potato
  • Carrots
  • Coconut Oil
  • Avocado
  • Almonds

Protect your skin from the sun

Quit rolling your eyes! I know some of us live in the snowpocalypse zone and the sun is a hidden gem that graces us a few months out of the year. That does not change the fact that 80% of premature aging and skin damage comes from the sun. Practice moderation. Get your 15-20 minutes of unprotected exposure (this will give you your whole daily dose of vitamin D @ 20,000 IUs) after that, lube up on a good broad spectrum SPF.

There you go! Now it is up to you to follow through with implementing these 5 steps into your life if you are not already. Until next time…

Hi Emma! I am wearing Bare Minerals Bare Skin liquid foundation with my (favorite) concealer by Maybelline. I have on a tinted moisturizer underneath and did not set the foundation with a powder. I wanted that really dewy look 😉 Thank you so much for the compliment.
